Our Executive Team
President & CEO
Mr. Nyland was appointed President of Loop in 2015 and Chief Executive Officer of Loop in 2016, following more than three years as the Company’s Vice President, Operations. Mr. Nyland is responsible for the Company’s strategic planning, corporate leadership, market expansion, and managing key partner relationships as the Company commercializes its clean and affordable transportation solutions.
Prior to joining Loop Energy, Mr. Nyland spent over 10 years in a variety of senior management positions, including as President of Rampworth Capital Services Inc., JBN Developments Inc., Exro Technologies Inc. and Maclean Group Marketing.
Mr. Nyland holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Towns joined Loop in 2021 as Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing the Company’s financial compliance, growth strategy, investor relations and corporate governance. He brings significant strategic and financial experience managing organizations with manufacturing operations and research and development activities.
Mr. Towns brings over 25 years of experience in progressive and rapid-growth companies, spending 15 years leading organizations at the executive level. Mr. Towns joined Loop Energy from Photon Control, an optical sensor supplier to the world’s largest semi-conductor OEMs. As the CFO and Corporate Secretary, Mr. Towns guided Photon’s exponential growth and maximized shareholder revenue through its acquisition. Prior to his role at Photon Control, Mr. Towns served as an Executive Director, CFO and Corporate Secretary at Liberty Defense (TSXV: SCAN), a technology company that provides Active 3D Imaging and AI software to address security challenges. His career also includes over 12 years as CFO and Corporate Secretary at Marimaca Copper (TSX: MARI), formerly Coro Mining.
Mr. Towns holds both CPA and CA designations, along with a First-Class Honours degree in accounting and finance from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
Chief Commercial Officer
Mr. Rubin joined Loop in 2020 as Managing Director, Commercial Strategy, and then as Chief Commercial Officer. He is a seasoned technology industry executive with the unique combination of a strong scientific background and in-depth, hands-on experience in building sales, business development and marketing organizations.
As Co-Founder, Vice President and subsequently President of Day4 Energy Inc., Mr. Rubin was instrumental in developing a strategic vision and directly responsible for executing the corporate development plan. This included including growing company operations from a research and development start-up in 2003 with a total of five staff, to 265 employees and sales in excess of $350 million in seven years.
As CEO of Heliotrope Technologies Inc., Mr. Rubin developed a minimum viable product strategy, early adopter customer base and ultimately a sales pipeline in excess of $40 million in under two years.
Dr. Daryl D. Musselman, PEng
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Musselman joined Loop in 2020, bringing over 30 years of experience from renewable energy and automotive sectors. Recently at Svante Inc., Dr. Musselman was Vice President, Operations and Engineering and Vice President, Manufacturing Operations, where he built a team from less than five people in 2017 to about 45 by 2019, and successfully executed the design, construction, and operation of a world-first point source carbon capture plant removing 30 tons of carbon dioxide per day using Svante’s proprietary technology.
As Vice President, Engineering at Endurance Wind Power Inc., Dr. Musselman grew a technical team from about 15 to more than 50 in three years as annual corporate revenues grew from approximately $6 million to $60 million in the same period and his team designed, installed, and maintained approximately 700 new turbines in the United Kingdom with an estimated combined installed cost in excess of £250 million.
Dr. Musselman’s other executive roles include Chief Operating Officer at Bionic Power Inc., and Vice President, Engineering and Technology Development at Xebec Adsorption Inc. where he has repeatedly delivered on the commercialization and production scale-up of new technologies. His career foundation was built in the automotive industry where he held plant and maintenance engineering roles at General Motors of Canada Co. car assembly plants and led advanced engineering efforts for Multimatic Inc., a Tier 1 OEM Supplier and motorsports company.
A registered Professional Engineer, Dr. Musselman has a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Applied Science degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo, a PhD in Engineering Science from Western University, and has completed the Executive Development Course at McGill University.
Dr. Sean MacKinnon
As Chief Scientist at Loop Energy, Dr. MacKinnon is responsible for leading and guiding the evolution of the company’s suite of fuel cell technology solutions. With extensive experience in research, development and project management, Dr. MacKinnon joined Loop in 2012 after conducting two peer reviews of the company’s eFlow® fuel cell technology and validating its capacity to address technical barriers encountered in his earlier career with Ballard Power Systems and General Motors Fuel Cell R&D.
Dr. MacKinnon also worked with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) where he helped construct a national program for alternative vehicle propulsion technologies. He received his Doctorate in Chemistry from Carleton University and holds 36 patents, with 13 others pending.
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Ms. Bach joined Loop Energy in 2021 as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. She has extensive legal and executive experience including 19 years at Methanex Corporation (MX-T; MEOH), where she held various roles including Senior Vice-President, Corporate Resources and General Counsel, Vice-President Human Resources, Director of Investor Relations and Senior Corporate Counsel. Ms. Bach also currently sits on the Board of Take a Hike Foundation and the Advisory Board for the Centre for Business Ethics at the Sauder School of Business at UBC. She has a wealth of experience in corporate governance, risk management, compliance, acquisitions & divestitures, corporate finance, joint ventures, and commercial contracts.
Wendy began her career as a lawyer in private practice at Bennett Jones LLP focusing on mergers and acquisitions and other large corporate transactions primarily in the oil and gas sector. She moved to an in-house counsel position at Canadian Airlines before joining Methanex in 2000 as Corporate Counsel. She graduated from the University of British Columbia Law School in 1995.
Vice President of Human Resources
Lisa Beck joined Loop Energy in April 2021 As Vice President of Human Resources. She oversees strategies, initiatives and programs related to human resources. Ms. Beck works in the areas of compensation and benefits management, developing organizational policies and practices that support and enhance employee engagement, employee and labour relations, and interactive talent development programs. She has an extensive and diverse background in senior human resource leadership roles within multinational and national companies. Her industry experience spans high tech, manufacturing, telecom and consumer goods.
Ms. Beck is an active advisory council member for the CPHR BC & YT and remains a member of the CMHA YT division where she served as Treasurer and board member for 4 years. Lisa is committed to transforming organizations by empowering people to create what is possible. Ms. Beck holds a BA in Liberal and Business Studies from Simon Fraser University, as well as post-graduate studies in Strategic HR Management and Values-Based Leadership from Royal Roads University.

Dr. Andreas Truckenbrodt
Chair of the Board
Dr. Truckenbrodt joined Loop as Chair of the Board in 2014 after a successful 30+ year career in the automotive industry. Previously he was CEO of the AFCC – a joint venture of Daimler AG and Ford Motor Company – where he was responsible for driving the development and commercialization of the automaker’s fuel cell vehicle program. Prior to AFCC, Dr. Truckenbrodt led the Hybrid Development Center for Daimler Chrysler, as well as senior management and engineering roles with Ballard Power Systems, Daewoo and BMW. He was also previously the President & CEO of Canadian Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association.
Dr. Truckenbrodt holds a degree in Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and received his PhD in Mechanics and Control Systems from the Technical University of Munich, Germany in 1980. Dr. Truckenbrodt is currently a consultant for TCEC, providing strategic and technical advice to companies with respect to their clean energy transport programs.
Mr. Collings is co-chairman of ACM Advisors Ltd., a leading commercial mortgage fund manager in Canada with assets under management in excess of $3.5 billion. Since joining Loop as a director in 2016, Mr. Collings has added significant strategic business planning, financial analysis, management and administrative experience to the Board based on his many years of senior financial and accounting management positions with Rogers Cablevision and companies in British Columbia’s forest industry.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration degree (Finance Honours – Dean’s List) from the University of British Columbia.
Mr. Murdoch has been a director of the Company since 2016 following a rewarding career as COO of Aston Hill Financial Inc. (“Aston Hill”) and founding member of Connor, Clark & Lunn Capital Markets Inc. where, as CEO, he raised over $2.5 billion in new assets before being acquired by Aston Hill in 2013.
Mr. Murdoch is a retired Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, a Bachelor of Law from the University of Toronto, and an MBA degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Mr. Clulow joined the Loop Energy board of directors in 2021.
He has been the Corporate Controller of Cummins Inc. since March 1, 2017. As Controller, he is responsible for Cummins’ global accounting processes, financial reporting, accounting policy, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, finance transformation and finance systems. He joined Cummins in May 2004, initially in the Sarbanes Oxley compliance group. He progressed through several leadership roles in finance and strategy from 2005 to 2014 across three of the four Cummins operating segments.
Prior to joining Cummins, he worked in public accounting for eight years with Ernst & Young, in the U.S. and U.K., and the two years prior to that with Coopers & Lybrand. During his time in public accounting, he held roles in audit, mergers and acquisitions and US GAAP technical advisory services.
He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy and Finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and graduate of Cummins’ Executive Leadership Development Program.
Previously, Ms. Langlois was as an audit partner with KPMG LLP from 2006 to 2020 where she supported domestic and international companies. She is a Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, the Human Resources Institute of Alberta, and received her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.
Mr. Johansson joined Loop Energy’s Board of Directors in September 2021 following a successful 35-year career across the aerospace, automotive and industrial sectors. Previously he was EVP, Strategy, Business Development and Marketing at Accudyne Industries, where he was responsible for the formulation and execution of the growth, business development and M&A strategies for an extensive portfolio of industrial compressors, pumps and valves. Prior to Accudyne, Mr. Johansson led the product, market, and M&A strategy for IDEX Corporation. He has also held senior business and commercial management and engineering roles with ITT Corporation, Trane Technologies, WABCO, and AlliedSignal.
Mr. Johansson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Texas, and received his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University at Fullerton in 1990, and his MBA from UCLA in 1998. Mr. Johansson is currently a consultant providing strategic and technical advice to highly engineered industrial product companies to drive their value creation and market development efforts.
