Driven by a strong and aligned sense of purpose, our team is creating world-changing fuel cell products through ingenuity and customer collaboration to drive a thriving hydrogen society. We have a proven value proposition and technology, a base platform of revenues on which to build, a growing network of potential OEM and strategic partners, and our own proprietary IP. We now need to optimize our engineering function to ensure scalable and cost-efficient design for manufacturing and production in order to meet current and anticipated demand. To lead this important function at Loop Energy, we are now looking to hire an experienced engineering leader for the role of VP Engineering. Reporting to the COO, you will become part of high-energy, dynamic and rapidly scaling organization engaged in innovative partnerships and evolving customer relationships around the world.
This role will be based at our global HQ in Vancouver, BC, Canada – regularly voted one of the top cities in the world in which to live, work and play. Our facility is in Burnaby, BC – approximately 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. We welcome interest from all qualified candidates in Canada and beyond and will help with relocation as required.
The Role
This is an exciting and important time for Loop Energy as we prepare to build on current customer pilot projects and progress to full commercialization and volume production. As VP Engineering, you will play a key role in this significant transition. You will lead the entire engineering function at Loop Energy and report to the COO. You will own the design, development and commercialization of our innovative fuel cell technology and lead a growing multi-discipline engineering team. Your responsibilities will include new Fuel Cell Engine and Fuel Cell Stack product design and development, commercial product testing and design verification, sales support, and customer support. You will also develop and maintain systems and processes to ensure essential product safety, product reliability, code compliance, and efficient product development activities that meet current and future needs for cost and customer satisfaction.
This is a result-driven position, in which you will develop strategic initiatives contributing directly to company growth, establish best-practice engineering protocols and in close collaboration with our VP, Operations, implement processes to facilitate accelerated delivery to a global market. You will lead a 20-plus engineering team coming in, with anticipated headcount growth in the future.
Candidate Profile
To succeed in this role, you will be a driven, resilient, and adaptable engineering leader who has led the commercialization for complex, multi-component technology products serving a global, industrial customer base. You will bring best practices in terms of engineering leadership, strategy and implementation from a fully commercialized production environment, and at the same time will bring innovative and resourceful thinking to this early-stage and rapidly scaling venture. You will be a collaborative team player and an authentic, mentoring leader of teams.
Experience Checklist
- 10+ years of senior engineering management experience in a global component design and manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience in leading, growing and mentoring high—performance technical teams
- Specific industry experience in Fuel Cell or battery/electrification technologies
- Successful product commercialization from TRL6 and beyond, in a variety of regulatory jurisdictions
- Operated in an environment where manufacturing at scale has been attained
- Engineering degree, with P. Eng preferred; post-graduate technical/business degree an asset
